Assur Travel is a French wholesale broker, based in Villeneuve-d’Ascq near Lille and operating since 2004. Since May 2025, the mutual insurer MGEN has held a majority of its capital, and it is MGEN that carries the risk on the student contract, with assistance handled by VYV International Assistance; Assur Travel is therefore placing a product from an established French mutual insurer, not an in-house contract.

The flagship contract, open up to age 35, covers a student on exchange, someone on a Working Holiday Visa, an au pair or a volunteer on a VSI assignment alike: a single certificate is enough for the different visa types. The reimbursement ceiling rises to €500,000 in around a dozen expensive destinations (the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore, and others) and stays at €200,000 elsewhere.

Everyday care must be paid upfront and reimbursed on presentation of receipts; only hospital stays of more than 24 hours qualify for direct billing. Pregnancy already under way, motorised or aerial sports, and high-altitude mountaineering are excluded. For anyone over 35 or planning long-term expatriation, Assur Travel is not the right fit: see our plans for employed and retired expatriates instead.

Students and university exchanges

The contract covers study, internships and gap years, with liability cover included.

Working Holiday Visa, au pair, VSI assignment

The same contract serves as proof of cover for working holiday visas, au pair placements and VSI volunteering, with no separate application.

Young people on a tight budget

Designed for under-35s, pricing stays among the lowest on the market for full cover.

Coverage zones

Worldwide excluding the country of residence, with a €500,000 ceiling in around a dozen high-cost destinations (the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and others) and €200,000 elsewhere.
